KABUL: Chinese Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Deng Xijun on Thursday reaffirmed Beijing’s support to Afghanistan for economic and transit projects and for peace and stability, a statement from the Afghan Presidential Palace said.
Deng called on President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani here and greeted him for Eid on the behalf of the Chinese government and people.
Deng promised support for projects such as Belt and Road, a railway line to connect China with Iran through Afghanistan, an optic fiber line and the Afghan-led peace process.
President Ghani called China a reliable economic partner and praised Beijing’s efforts for revival of the old Silk Road in the Belt and Road project. Ghani called the Belt and Road project an important step for the development of regional economies.
The Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan was at the meeting.
