ITALY: The Torri del Benaco municipality in the province of Verona by the scenic tourist venue Lake Garda has reportedly been struck by the norovirus, causing several people, including tourists to suddenly fall ill with common symptoms.
The contagious virus is spreading to neighboring villages.
Several residents and tourists have been hospitalized with symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and fever.
This norovirus spreads through food and water and was discovered in patients stool samples that reportedly went in for tests. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. There are no vaccinations or medication to prevent norovirus infection.
The mayor of the municipality has stopped residents from drinking tap water, temporarily offered bottled water, while tourists have been issued a travel advisory for Lake Garda.
