PAKISTAN’S Islamabad High Court (IHC) On Monday rejected the bail plea the country’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif made on medical grounds. Sharif was convicted by an accountability court in December and sentenced to 7 years in prison.
The detailed nine-page verdict read that a recent judgment by the Supreme Court in the case, Tallat Ishaq Vs. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) determined that a high court could grant bail to a suspect person arrested under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 in extraordinary circumstances and/or in cases of extreme hardship for valid reasons recorded in writing, not as a matter of course.
The Islamabad High Court said in its verdict that nothing in Nawaz Sharif’s case indicated he was not being given the best possible medical treatment available in Pakistan.
