ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar remarked on Tuesday while hearing a suo motu case pertaining to illegal construction in Bani Gala, that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was inept and had no concrete plans.
The additional attorney general submitted a report to the bench headed by CJP Nisar on behalf of the CDA in which a 1960 map of Bani Gala included roads in zone 4. Amendments to the map were made in 1992 and private housing societies were allowed to build in certain areas of zone 4.
The additional attorney general informed the court, “A large green area is still present and can be saved.” To this, Chief Justice Nisar asked tongue in cheek, “Do you want to construct roads in this area?” and the CJ remarked that the government department was inept and clueless. “The current government does not have any capabilities or planning,” Justice Nisar remarked.
The Surveyor General of Pakistan informed the court. “CDA and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) owe us Rs 3.42 million”, to which the additional attorney general responded, “CDA has granted approval for payment of dues and Punjab government also owes some money.”
The bench then directed that the sum be paid to the Surveyor General of Pakistan within a month.
