LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has lifted the ban on bi-directional green meters used for transmission of solar electricity to electricity selling companies, announced Director Customer Services Sarwar Mughal, adding that a notification to lift the ban has been issued.

The Pakistani government’s policy on solar energy has been fraught with anomalies and confusion from the word go, making it seem to consumers and solar solution providers alike that the entire plan is at the mercy of disconnected bureaucrats.

In fact, the solar energy providers association wrote to LESCO to reconsider it’s policy at least temporarily and allow the installation of “green meters” till the AMI meters are in fact manufactured.

Solar companies’ customers and the companies themselves expect that the letter might have played a part in resolving the GREEN METER issue.

However, solar solution companies’ clients complain of an inordinate delay by electricity distribution companies such as LESCO etc, in installing green meters. They also accuse the solar solution companies of biting off more than they can chew in terms of accepting too many clients at a time to service them promptly.
