ISLAMABAD: Mountain climbers from Nepal made history on Saturday, becoming the first to scale the mountain K2 in Pakistan in winter, the most dangerous season to climb K2 or Mount Everest, the mountain’s big brother.
The adventure company called Seven Summit Treks carried the climb and described the K2 mountain as “the Karakorum’s range’s Savage Mountain,” summited in the treacherous winter season. The climbers reached the summit of Mt K2 at 5pm on Saturday.
At 8,611-metres or 28,250-feet, it discouraged climbers at 7,650 metres since 1988 until Saturday, when four teams totalling 60 climbers were more than all the previous expeditions put together.
The 10 Nepalese climbers recently banded together from different teams, therefore crediting their country with the achievement.
