ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that digitization was key to stopping corruption and ensuring transparency in governance.

He was speaking at the inauguration of E-Bidding, E-Billing and GIS Mapping System for the National Highways Authority (NHA).

He underscored e-governance in all federal ministries and divisions ‑ including the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the National Highways Authority (NHA) ‑ within the next six months.

He explained that when he established Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital 20 years ago he introduced paperless offices with online data maintenance to block corruption and ensure transparency.

Imran Khan said he could not bring about change by the flick of a switch, instead it was the people who had to work for change and regain the respect for the Pakistani passport wherever they worked in the world.

The prime minister said his government was trying to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state per the vision of its founding fathers.

Minister for Communications Murad Saeed said the NHA had digitized its manual systems and introduced smart technologies at par with international standards aimed at good governance, maintaining transparency and ensuring accountability.

Murad said the government’s measures had helped NHA realize Rs 50 billion per year revenue and was aiming to take this to Rs 100 billion per annum in the next two and a half years. ‑‑APP
