ISLAMABAD: Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Tuesday rubbished speculation about his resignation. He explained he had been unable to continue working recently because of ill health and that he’d informed the prime minister accordingly.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said the FBR chairman was unwell and on a “long vacation”. “We will look for a replacement for (Shabbar) Zaidi if his doctors say he won’t recover any time soon,” Hafeez Shaikh said, “but the new chairman will have Shabbar’s approval.”
Shabbar went on sick leave from January 6 to January 19, leading to rumours that there was discord in the government’s economic team, which were promptly rejected by the FBR.
