ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman retired justice Javed Iqbal announced on Thursday that all tax-related cases would be sent to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), not the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). “We will transfer all cases pertaining to taxes to the FBR,” he said.
Addressing businessmen in Lahore, Javed Iqbal repudiated what he called ‘speculation’ in the media that there was a nexus between the government and the accountability watchdog in making and proceeding with corruption cases. “NAB doesn’t exceed its authority,” he explained.
However, he said, “Those who were once on bicycles now have towers [buildings] in Dubai. “Until my approval, there will not be any plea bargains,” he said. “There’s a lot of difference between conducting a business and money laundering,” he added, urging businessmen to give priority to national interests over personal gain.
He said that the supreme court had sent NAB several cases of money laundering.
